Madison High School is fully accredited with the North Central Association, an organization of schools and universities which accredits schools based on a comprehensive process involving school staff, students, district personnel, and appointed visiting team members of outside educators. This process is designed to ensure a quality education at all accredited schools. We are proud to have been continuously accredited since 1936. |
- Our teachers at MHS are required to post their weekly lesson plans to their website. If a student is absent or simply wishes to prepare ahead, he or she can find out what objectives are planned for each lesson and what assignments are intended for each day’s lessons. Parents and students should check these links often.
- Our link to the Zangle Parent Connect website allows parents to use the USER ID and the PASSWORD mailed to them to access a report of daily attendance and grades 24/7 for their child. This will keep parents informed of their child’s performance.
Note: Between the voice mail access for each faculty member, the email addresses included in the teachers’ websites, the website for lesson plans, and the Zangle Parent Connect for attendance and grades the communication between home and school can be facilitated to support our partnership with the families of our students to provide as much help and support to every student as possible.
- The link to our School Calendar will inform parents of when grade reports become available for each progress report and each quarter grade report. Any half days or planned holidays will be posted at this site.
- The schedule for athletic events is available and a link to the information on scores is also available at our website.
- Our Counselors have provided a website with links for scholarships, schedules, enrollment applications to take college courses at Madison, and information about the curriculum. A testing schedule for major examinations and a calendar for grade reports and registration and counseling interventions are also available at the Counselor’s website.
- Any day when there is a “school closing” due to weather or an emergency, we will post this on our Madison High School website as soon as it is confirmed.
- The Student Handbook is posted and available in both English and Arabic. All students are required to know the contents and expectations in the handbook and will. be held responsible for following the rules of the school.
- The assistant principal/athletic director will also post updates and reminders that relate to student conduct, school activities, or extra-curricular events such as athletics, band, dance, drama, or clubs.
- The weekly Newsletter Bulletin which announces scheduled college visits, meetings, fund raising activates, and other important announcements about what is going on at school will be posted weekly by the school secretary.
- The Curriculum Guide which describes the course offerings and graduation requirements is also available to guide students in working out their four-year plan for graduation.
As the principal at Madison High School, I ask that all of the adults in our community, in our families, in our classrooms and among our volunteers join together in collaboration and collegiality to work as PARTNERS for our children’s education. Madison High School must be a “Temple of Learning.” What matters every day and in every class is that students are here for the purpose of LEARNING. We are not here to hold a fashion show, to provide a social gathering place or hangout for idle teenagers, nor to just keep kids off of the streets. Our students are busy with the job of preparing for careers and for higher education in the trades or professions that will support them for life. We do not have time to waste merely building a “school of compliance.” Madison must be a “School of Learning.”
For the school year of 2009-2010, we will develop a program for Positive Behavior Support (PBS) to include our Challenge Day experience, our Youth Under Construction kick off for positive behaviors, and our teaching character development choices within our curriculum. Ample research has confirmed that academic scores improve as students learn to make POSITIVE BEHAVIOR choices. I would like to invite parents to join our Parent-Teacher Advisory Organization to specifically help support our efforts to build POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT at Madison High School. A monthly meeting of the Parent-Teacher Advisory will be held at 7:00 on the second Monday of each month. Any change in the meeting date or time will be posted on the MHS website.
