K2C

K2C Madison District Public Schools is located in the suburbs of Detroit.  It serves hundreds of families from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. For many, life goes on every day with the opportunity to provide for their children, but for many others, those opportunities don't exist.  Life isn't always easy, and challenges and obstacles make thinking about the future difficult, if not impossible.

At Madison Schools, we have a dream/mission to see every student given an opportunity to pursue education or training after high school.  One way that we are equipping these students with that opportunity is by providing them with student savings accounts.

The MDPS Educational Foundation has established a program, the Jim Myers K2C Fund in which all students receive an amount of money every year (amount is always to be determined) to go toward post-high school educational expenses when they graduate.    Each year, the foundation will add additional monies to the scholarship fund.

Research shows that by providing a financial boost to a student and their family, several outcomes can happen:

-- Increase in college and career training expectations

-- Improving college attendance

-- Increasing completion of college and training

-- Reducing student loan debt

-- Increasing families financial capability

This is a part of our mission to serve families one student at a time.  By establishing the Jim Meyers Kindergarten to College and Career (K2C) Training fund, we are giving students a pathway to new learning and new opportunities.

We are naming the fund after former teacher and coach, Jim Myers.  He had a storied career in Madison and went on to have an entertainment career as the Hall of Fame Wrestler, George the Animal Steele.  Upon his passing in February of 2017, it was determined that the fund should be in his honor.  As a child, Coach Myers overcame dyslexia to become a successful student.  Part of the drive to overcome is the ability to say “I can do it.”  The students of Madison District Public Schools CAN DO IT!!
